Morning gray.

Morning gray in sharp focus.
Spying through the misty light.
Buildings with their open features
Hiding from retreating night.
Figures shift from shadows long
While quiet turns to rising din.
Into life comes all the town
Rising as the day begins.

  1. Good one - evokes the start of the day really well. Some nice juxtapositions - 'sharp focus' cutting through the 'misty light' - 'open features' that are 'hiding' and 'retreating'... like it. Especially like the 5th line alliteration - 'Figures shift from shadows long'. If a little constructive criticism is OK, maybe think of a different word to replace 'smiling' in the last line - it lacks the intensity of the rest of the poem. Just a thought, I'm enjoying your return to poetry ;-)
